Plea Bargain: Emefiele’s Family Members Withdraw Suit Against DSS, AGF

The siblings of the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele have withdrawn a suit filed against the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).

Naija News understands the siblings, George and Okanta on Wednesday told Justice E Okpe of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja they were no longer interested in prosecuting the matter by filing a notice of discountenance of the case.

It is understood that Emefiele’s siblings took the AGF and the DSS to court over the infringement on their fundamental human rights on account of issues surrounding the embattled suspended CBN governor.

But they have now decided to withdraw the case.

The AGF and the DSS did not oppose the withdrawal of the case.

Following the development, Justice Okpe struck out the case.

The fresh development may be connected to the reported move by Emefiele to opt for a plea bargain with the federal government in the charges against him.

Sources privy to the development said Emefiele and his his-co accused, Saadat Yaro, have opted for a plea bargain policy to settle with the government.

Truetells Nigeria recalls the federal government filed a N6.9 billion 20-count charge bordering on alleged breach of procurement laws and contract inflation on the suspects.

However, the arraignment scheduled for Wednesday by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory was not stated on the cause list of the court.

Similarly, Emefiele and his co-defendant, Yaro were not in court neither was any unusual security presence observed around the court premises.

The lawyers of the parties involved in the matter were also not present in court.

Sources said to be in the know revealed that the arraignment was shifted at the instance of the detained CBN Governor to enable all parties come into an agreement on the plea bargain.
