The Plateau State Government has confirmed the arrest of individuals accused of plotting attacks in Jos following the Ramadan period, as authorities intensify efforts to restore peace in the state.
The State Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap, disclosed this development during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday. She stated that security agencies acted swiftly on threats issued ahead of the planned violence, leading to the apprehension of those involved.
Her comments come in the wake of a deadly assault on the Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area, where at least 20 people were killed and several others injured after gunmen attacked residents on Sunday.
Ramnap emphasized that the government would never ignore credible threats to public safety, noting that proactive steps were taken once intelligence about the planned attacks surfaced.
“Those who publicly declared that there would be attacks in Jos after Ramadan have been arrested,” she said, stressing that security agencies remain committed to ensuring justice is served.
She further explained that tackling insecurity requires a coordinated effort among multiple institutions, including the police, military, and judiciary. According to her, arrests are handled by the police, investigations follow due legal processes, and prosecution is carried out through the courts.
The commissioner also revealed that a Deputy Inspector-General of Police recently visited Plateau State, where Governor Caleb Mutfwang reiterated the administration’s determination to see that investigations are concluded and offenders are prosecuted.
Ramnap called on residents to support security agencies by providing useful information, noting that community cooperation is vital to achieving lasting peace and preventing further attacks in the state.
