Partnership for justice in collaboration with Rule of Law and empowerment initiative, Lagos State domestic and sexual violence response in conjunction with Nigerian Policing Programme NPP, on Saturday held a round table discussion with family social service (FSS) officials and counselors to address the issues on masculinity, gender based violence and sexual reproductive health.
According to the organizers, the discuss is focused on engaging with boys and men to address the issues of male gender violence and sexual abuse.
The event which was held at NECA House Ikeja attracted teachers and counselors from different secondary schools in Lagos.
Speaking at the the event, Jeffry Ekenkwo, social worker and project coordinator of kings club, said that the essence of the event is to recreate the perception of boys and men, which the society have given them as norms.
“ The Kings club is an initiative of Lagos state domestic and sexual violence response team, with the bid of setting up a sustainable structure in the Lagos educational institutions that will help debunk the socio cultural means of toxic masculinity that have been passed on through generations and put in some positive mindset on masculinity thereby making the boys to be advocates of positive change.
Making them understand that the attributes of being a man is not supposed to be used negatively but rather positively to promote peace.
We are training teachers and councilors to know these things so as to pass the knowledge”. Ekenkwo said.
