A leading fintech company, PalmPay is partnering with the Lagos State Government on the Food Discount Market – Ounje Eko, taking place across five (5) divisions in Lagos State effective from Sunday, March 17, 2024.
Ounje Eko, translated to – Lagos Food, is a recent food intervention program brought into being by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, aimed at providing succor to residents.
According to the Honourable Commissioner, Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, “the markets will be open at 27 locations in Ikeja; six in Lagos Island; nine in Ikorodu; five in Epe; and 10 in Badagry divisions. The food items – rice, beans, garri, bread, eggs, tomatoes, pepper, among others – are being sold at a 25% discount to residents.”
Furthermore, the Head of Marketing Communications, PalmPay, Enakeno Umuteme noted, “ This is indeed a laudable initiative especially as the inflation rate stands at 30% according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).”
