Oyo/Osun Customs Command Reports Significant Revenue Growth and Anti-Smuggling Success

 In a press briefing held at the Command Operational Headquarters, Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu, the newly appointed Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, highlighted remarkable achievements in revenue collection and anti-smuggling efforts since his tenure began on September 3, 2025.

Under Comptroller Aliyu’s leadership, the Command reported a record revenue collection of ₦77.88 billion from January to October 2025, marking a 17.5% increase from the same period in 2024. This impressive growth underscores the dedication of the officers amidst challenging economic conditions and their commitment to exceeding revenue targets set by the Nigeria Customs Service.

The Command also made significant strides in combating smuggling, seizing prohibited items valued at over ₦818.79 million. Key seizures included:

  • 3,671 bags of foreign parboiled rice valued at ₦380 million
  • 403 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (10,075 liters) valued at ₦11.13 million
  • Used vehicles, including a Toyota Hilux and a Mercedes Benz GLE, with a combined value of over ₦45 million.

Comptroller Aliyu emphasized the importance of collaboration with stakeholders, including traditional institutions and security agencies, to enhance trade facilitation and compliance with customs regulations. He acknowledged the support of Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde and the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for their guidance and support.

As the Oyo/Osun Area Command moves forward, Comptroller Aliyu reiterated the commitment to uphold professionalism and integrity in service delivery, ensuring the protection of the national economy against smuggling threats.

This briefing marks a renewed focus on transparency and partnership, with a call for the media to continue disseminating accurate information to foster public understanding and compliance with customs regulations.
