Testimonies are abounded as the Nigerian Policing Programme (NPP) sponsored by the British government to foster security in Nigeria comes to an end and has urged the members of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) to continue the good work.
The close out event which was held at Protea select Alausa attracted the coordinators of the Programme, PCRC members, Police, the media and members of the community.
Speaking at the event the state intervention manager of the Nigerian Policing Programme, Mr Tosin Osasona said that engagements of The NPP will be ongoing after the close out.
“ Our engagement with so many other clusters are still ongoing, we would have failed if our Programme and interventions ends when we are closing out, school campaign will be going on, basically what we have done is created messages and influence carriers to keep those messages on when we are gone.
There is a need for joint engagement in fighting crime as the police can not do it alone the community have to work together with the police to get the work of securing the community done, the have to learn to engage with the police through meetings and discussions.” He said
Our sustainability plan is embedded in the Programme, we started by engaging group like the PCRC which has been existing since 1984, so when we are gone they will definitely continue with the Programme.” He concluded.
According to the Deputy team lead of the Nigerian policing Programme, Idris Bawa, the aim of the last Programme of NPP is ensuring sustainability.
“ This is the last Programme for NPP but what we are trying to do is to ensure that there is sustainability of what has been done so far, we are here to engage with the people to make sure that what NPP has planted dose not die.
We work with partners like the PCRC, which has been working all we deed was to strengthen them build their capacity so that they can engage more with all policing actors, we also have other government organizations we partner with like the National Human Right Commission, they have their mandate. We are trying to increase their capacity to engage more with the public.
We created Community Safety Partnership CSP’s especially in Iju and Isolo and also replicated in other areas in Lagos.” He said
