OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, PRESIDENT. BOLA AHMED TINUBU

Dear President Bola Tinubu, GCFR

ATTENTION: PROF MARTIN OSITA ANAGBOSO OF MADONNA UNIVERSITY, NIGERIA – A
CLEAR CASE OF ACADEMIC FRAUD.

I wish to inform you that the method and criteria of naming Professors in some of our private universities have reached
an all-time low, and it has become disgraceful and unacceptable.
At Madonna University Nigeria, there is a clear case of academic fraud under the stewardship of Prof. Uchenna
Anyanwu (the Vice-Chancellor), who has successfully nurtured a quack academic – Prof. Martin Anagboso the
current Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) into becoming a professor. I would like you to ask Prof. U.
Anyanwu, from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, if that was how they made him a professor at UNN.
Prof. Martin Osita Anagboso was never in academia. He was a microbiology graduate who, until he purportedly
declared himself to have bagged a doctorate in December of 2021, was only involved in helping his employer, Very
Rev Fr. Prof. E.M.P Edeh, in the construction of buildings and overseeing other administrative activities. He has
neither lectured any student nor even supervised an undergraduate student, before that time and even up till now. In
2022, he was announced as an Associate Professor, having just bagged his PhD the previous year, which is even
subject to questioning. As of then, he only had 6 articles (verifiable on Google Scholar). In November of 2023, he
was again promoted to the rank of a full professor of Microbiology, after he had engaged in so many fire brigade
articles, in which some Pharmacy professors, from the University of Uyo (who are illegally extending their sabbatical
at Madonna University, Nigeria, unknown to their parent institutions), had assisted him in putting up some articles in
which some are completely out of his scope. This episode is a big slap to academia and should not be condoned. This
is not what our leaders labored for. This is a flagrant disregard for hard work. The fact that we are abandoned does
not mean we should abandon ourselves. This profession is all some of us have got, we must not let a few make a mess
of it. We must strive to uphold the little pride and integrity that is left of it.
I wish to ask the following questions 1. Are universities now so autonomous that they name any Tom, Dick, and Harry,
a professor?
2.Where and who are the FRAUDULENT PROFESSORS who assessed Martin Anagboso (If the institution claims
he was assessed)
I sincerely suggest, that they be fished out and dealt with severely, and this show of shame should be REVOKED
IMMEDIATELY. The Panel set by the Federal government this year should please look into this reported
matter and all other Professors appointed by the University in the past 15 years
Once more, we cannot continue like this. This pattern must not be allowed to go unpunished. The danger is that we
will set a very wrong precedence, should this be overlooked and rubbish the educational institutions in the
international committee.
