The Online Reporters Association of Nigeria (ORAN) has extended warm Eid-el-Fitri greetings to Muslims across the country while urging citizens to embrace unity, peace and collective progress amid mounting national challenges.
In a statement issued by ORAN President Adegbola Shehu Tijani, the association appealed to Nigerians to set aside divisive rhetoric and actions as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections. Tijani warned that provocative behaviour and inflammatory speech could deepen disaffection and undermine law and order at a time when the nation already faces serious security and economic pressures.
“The current security challenges and economic hardship require that we put our differences aside and work towards a common goal of national development,” the statement said. Tijani called on political actors, community leaders and ordinary citizens to prioritize the country’s stability over short-term gains and to refrain from actions that could fuel unrest.
Tijani described Eid-el-Fitri as a period for forgiveness, mercy and compassion, encouraging Nigerians to reflect on their conduct and seek reconciliation where necessary. He urged Muslim faithful to include prayers for peace, security and prosperity in their celebrations and appealed to all Nigerians to promote mutual respect and understanding.
The ORAN president also used the occasion to advocate for a renewed sense of national responsibility. He called for a “national awakening” in which citizens take ownership of the country’s future through sacrifice, civic engagement and a willingness to work together for the greater good.
ORAN’s appeal comes as Nigeria grapples with insecurity, rising cost of living and growing political tensions ahead of next year’s elections. Observers said the association’s message is a timely reminder of the role of peaceful civic behaviour in sustaining democratic processes and national development.
The statement concluded with ORAN’s best wishes to Muslim families celebrating Eid-el-Fitri and a call for collective efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s peace and stability in the months ahead.
