A yet-to-be identified child has been confirmed dead in a fresh building collapse incident in Mushin axis of Lagos State.
The collapse took place due to the heavy downpour in the state on Wednesday morning.
About seven other people were also rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building.
At the scene of the incident, SaharaReporters observed that the residents and onlookers were blaming the collapse on the poor materials used to construct the building.
One of them said, “The way they built in Lagos is worrisome. Look at this collapsed building now, no cement for the pillar, it is just too much of sand.”
A resident of the community confirmed to SaharaReporters that some people were still currently trapped inside the building while efforts were underway to get them rescued alive.
Meanwhile, SaharaReporters had earlier reported how thousands of road users and commuters were stranded as floods took over major roads, including the famous third mainland bridge in Lagos on Wednesday morning.
SaharaReporters learnt that the floods were as a result of heavy rain which started around 3am Wednesday midnight.
In multiple videos and pictures seen by SaharaReporters, Iyana-Oworo, Olopo meji areas heading to 3rd Mainland Bridge are currently completely flooded, causing long traffic that extends to Alapere area of the state.
A resident, Cmion said, “This flooding happens every year in Lagos. Every damn year, what the hell is the government doing to curb it, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.”
