NSCDC Officer Opens Fire On Secondary School Students In Abuja

Three personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been arrested for allegedly shooting two students of the Senior Secondary School Life Camp, Abuja.

According to reports, the personnel were deployed to the school for the ongoing Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) external exercise.

It is unknown what caused the incident, but the injured students are claimed to be receiving treatment at Abuja’s Gwarinpa Hospital.

Due to the shooting, some students allegedly vandalised three patrol vehicles belonging to the NSCDC in protest, Daily Trust reports.

The event was confirmed by FCT police spokeswoman Josephine Adeh, who also stated that officers had restored quiet to the affected area.

Haruna Garba, the CP, she added, had ordered a probe into the event.

This is the second incident in recent times when the NSCDC officers were involved in infractions and public indiscipline.
In September, the Nigerian Police Command in Imo State said it had arrested three officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and two personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly extorting residents of the state.

He had noted that the suspects were “notorious for extorting unsuspecting civilians, especially the youths in Owerri, using point-of-sale (POS) machines”.

“These are security operatives hiding under the umbrella of Operation Search and Flush in Imo, harassing and extorting unsuspecting members of the public, in particular, the youths to the tune of thousands of Naira,” Okoye had said while parading the officers.
