Nigerian investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, who was arrested by the Nigerian Army, has spoken following his release.
Soyombo was released on Friday evening, Nov. 29.
The army had said in a statement that Soyombo was arrested on “an illegal oil bunkering site” in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The army did not charge him but said he and other suspects were undergoing preliminary investigation to ascertain their level of involvement in the oil theft incident.
However, the journalist was released Friday three days after he was arrested.
This comes after Nigerians demanded for his release with the hashtag #FreeFisayoNow.
Soyombo took to X after his release to thank Nigerians. He said Nigerians are the reason he was not held for too long.
He added that he has never believed the claim that “Nigerians are not worth fighting for” and his experience and how Nigerians stood up for him proved him right.
