Nigerian Police Service Commission Speaks On Sharing Recruitment Slots To Politicians

The Nigerian Police Service Commission (PSC) has explained that those who will be recruited to the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, will be chosen based on merit.

The PSC Chairman, Solomon Arase, a former Inspector-General of Police, said this while briefing journalists during a visit to the commandant and the management staff of the academy.

Arase was quoted by Daily Trust as saying “When we were setting up the recruitment board, we brought everybody on board. Under such a circumstance, it is complicated for you to influence it. I can assure you that it is not shared by any politician.”

The Nigerian Police Academy Wudil is a federal government-owned institution that was established in 1988 to train police officers in Nigeria. It is located in Wudil Kano State, Nigeria, and offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in law enforcement and related fields.

The recruitment process for this college and police force has been characterised by corruption and bribery.

For Instance, SaharaReporters had reported in 2020 how some applicants for constable in the Nigeria Police Force paid N700,000 each to secure the job in the nationwide recruitment by the police commission.

Former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari had in 2019 approved the recruitment of 10,000 police constables to beef up security in the country.
