A police Inspector with Rivers Command of the Nigeria Police, Salihu Kazeem has been arrested and detained for allegedly raping teenage girls and also videoing the assault.
Truetells Nigeria earlier reported that a 17-year-old girl identified only as Binla had accused a policeman of having carnal knowledge of her and her friend after accusing them of stealing his N500,000 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Binla claimed Kazeem took her and her friend into a room, stripped them naked, took their nude videos and assaulted them with teargas. She said the police officer also raped them from that night till the following morning.
Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, the girl said she was afraid for her life because the alleged rapist started trailing her after she reported the matter to the police.
The teenager also disclosed that Kazeem had sex with them on three other occasions.
She explained that she was introduced to Kazeem through her friend while job-hunting sometime in March 2022.
The teenager expressed surprise that the policeman accused her of stealing after they returned his Automated Teller Machine card which he gave to them to go get something to eat.
However, on Wednesday, the Rivers Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday directed that the police officer should be detained after statements were taken from the alleged rape victim and the Inspector, while an investigation into the case continues.
Eboka said others mentioned in the statements of the alleged victim and Inspector Kazeem should be invited to give voluntary statements.
The accused police officer is with Bayelsa Police Command but resides in Port Harcourt.
