1. We Need The Collaboration Of Countries To Combat Insecurity – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, stressed the importance of collective efforts of nations towards battling security challenges across the globe.

The president said this while receiving Letters of Credence of the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador James Kingston Christoff and Ambassador of Mexico to Nigeria, Juan Alfred Miranda Oritz, at the State House.

He urged more collaborations be made to control terrorism, banditry and insurgency as successes has been recorded and more could be achieved.

2. Terrorists Release Five Abuja-Kaduna Train Passengers

Terrorists have released five of the Abuja-Kaduna train passengers kidnapped on March 28, 2022.

Naija News understands that a female and four males were let go days after the terrorists released a disturbing video, torturing some of them.

Daily Trust quoted popular Kaduna-based Publisher, Tukur Mamu as saying that among those released is a medical doctor at the Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital (UDUS), Sokoto, Prof. Mustapha Umar Imam.

He said other passengers who were released are Akibu Lawal, Abubakar Ahmed Rufai, Muktar Shuaibu and Sidi Aminu Sharif.

Recall that Mamu, who voluntary engaged in negotiating the release of the victims but backed out due to threats to his life, had said that Imam was shot in captivity by the terrorists.

Mamu advised the government to quickly negotiate the release of the remaining victims in captivity due to their current condition.

He also called on the authorities to dialogue with the terrorists, insisting that there is nothing dialogue and negotiation could not achieve.

3. Osama Bin Laden: In Nigeria, We Beg, Pay, Reward Terrorists – Fani-Kayode

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to the killing of Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri by a drone strike.

In a post on his Twitter page on Tuesday, Fani-Kayode hailed the United States of America for killing terrorist warlords like Osama Bin Ladin, AbuBakr Al Baghdadi and Ayman Al Zawahiri.

He, however, lamented that terror kingpins in Nigeria are rewarded instead if killed.

According to Fani-Kayode, terrorists are begged, paid, appeased, rewarded and even given chieftaincy titles in Nigeria.

4. Buhari Govt Speaks On Increasing Petrol Price

The Muhammadu Buhari-led government has again denied that it increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, above the regulated cost of N165/litre.

Naija News reports that the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, disclosed this on Monday at an event organised by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) in Abuja.

Sylva claimed that oil marketers in the country solely increased the price of the PMS, currently between N175/litre and N230/litre, depending on the location of purchase.

He said: “Well, I can tell you authoritatively that we have not deregulated.

“The government is still subsidising, if there are increases in the price it is not from the government, it is probably from the marketers.

“But, of course, I will talk to the NMDPRA’s chief executive to ensure that they actually regulate the prices. But this is not from the government because we have not deregulated.”

The minister could also not explain why no action had been taken against the marketers and why there had been no monitoring exercise to enforce the government-approved price.

5. 2023: Why I Dumped Igbo Presidency To Support Tinubu – Okechukwu

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Director-General, Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr Osita Okechukwu has explained the reason behind his decision to jettison the agitation for a 2023 Igbo presidency.

Speaking on Tuesday, Okechukwu said he had no other option but to dump the agitation for Igbo presidency after Asiwaju Bola Tinubu emerged as the APC presidential candidate.

He said though he had always supported and promoted the idea of an Igbo presidency for 2023, reality changed his position after Tinubu emerged.

The VON DG posited further that as a loyal party man, though Tinubu was not his preferred choice, he had to let go of his own position and support the party candidate who emerged from a free and fair primary election.

6. 2023: Not Everybody Who Registered For Voters Cards Will Be Able To Vote — INEC Announces

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that not everyone who registered for the Continuous Voter Registration, (CVR), would be entitled to the Permanent Voters Cards, (PVCs) to make them eligible to vote.

The electoral body’s National Commissioner for Information and Voters Education, Mr Festus Okoye, made the disclosure during an interview on Arise TV in Abuja.

Okoye who stated that the estimated number of voters for the 2023 general election were 95 million, said that those who got involved in double registration would be deleted from the commission’s data and subsequently denied PVC.

He went on to reveal that in the first and second quarters of the CVR over 46% of those who registered were removed from the commission data for multiple registrations.

7. Tinubu-Shettima: You Are Acting Like The Religious Wing Of PDP – APC Chieftain Slams CAN

Former National Vice Chairman South-South of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Hilliard Eta has said that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) is acting like the religious wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The APC stalwart said this while speaking to journalists on Tuesday at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

He berated CAN for opposing the ruling APC’s presidential Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Eta stated that the religious body claim of an Islamization agenda shows that the body is acting like PDP’s political wing.

8. ‘No Candidate Is More Suited To Lead Nigeria Than Peter Obi’ – Datti Baba-Ahmed Replies Okowa

The Labour Party (LP) vice presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has replied the Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa over a recent statement that his principal, Peter Obi, lacks the experience to lead Nigeria.

Naija News earlier reported that Okowa, who is the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said Obi’s only experience as a former Governor in Anambra State is not enough to lead Nigeria.

He stressed that leading a country like Nigeria is hard and hence someone like Obi needed more to occupy the seat of the presidency.

But speaking in an interview on Channels TV on Monday, Datti Baba-Ahmed asked Okowa to present anyone that has experience more than Peter Obi.

According to Yusuf, the saying that Obi lacks enough experience is untrue stressing that he has more experience than other candidates.

9. 2023: ‘Why APC Is Worried About Kwankwaso’ – Osita Okechukwu

The Director-General, Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu, has revealed why the All Progressives Congress (APC) is worried about the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Speaking on Arise TV on Tuesday, the APC chieftain gave an analysis of what would be the outcome of the 2023 election.

Osita also faulted the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the party, stressing that as a Christian he would have preferred a Christian to be the vice presidential candidate of APC.

He added that Atiku may not get votes in the South East and South-South like the Peoples Democratic Party used to have but APC is worried that Kwakwaso might deprive the party of some votes in the North.

10. Obi-Tuary: If Anything Happens To Me Hold Peter Obi – Sam Omatseye Cries Out

Veteran journalist, Sam Omatseye has accused supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, of threatening to kill him.

Recall that Omatseye had on Monday published an opinion piece in The Nation, titled ‘Obi-tuary’, where he took a swipe at Obi, a former Anambra State governor.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Omatseye asked Peter Obi to call his supporters to order.

According to the journalist, the presidential candidate will be held responsible if anything happened to him.

He tweeted, “Mr. Peter Obi, call your supporters to order. They are calling and issuing death threats. If anything happens to me, you will be held responsible!
