1. EFCC Detain, Grill Bukola Saraki

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)  on Saturday questioned a former president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki.

It was gathered that the interrogation is over alleged misappropriation of public funds and money laundering.

Saraki, who arrived at the EFCC office around 2pm today, is still being interrogated presently.

2. Top Military Officers Killed By Unknown Gunmen (Full List)

Top military officers of the Nigerian Army have not escaped the security challenges which has overwhelmed the security structure of the country and has led to the death of Nigerians.

Nigerians over the years have suffered attacks carried out by unknown gunmen, bandits, herdsmen and Boko Haram terrorists.

Though the Federal Government of Nigeria claims to be overcoming the security challenges in the country, the situation seems to be worsening daily.

3. Details Of FBI’s Meeting With Inspector-General Of Police Over Abba Kyari Revealed

Operatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Friday met with the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, in Abuja over the arrest warrant issued on Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.

This is coming after the Nigerian super cop was linked in a fraud trial involving internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.

According to SaharaReporters, top sources in the office of the IGP disclosed that FBI detectives were with the IGP till he went for Friday’s Juma’at prayers.

4. Resident Doctors Begin Indefinite Strike

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced that it would embark on an indefinite strike from Monday, August 2, 2021.

Truetells Nigeria reports that this was made known by the NARD after their National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

In a statement to newsmen, President of the NARD, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, accused the Federal Government of failing to honour and implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it signed with them after over 100 days.

The doctors had demanded immediate withdrawal of the circular removing House Officers from the scheme of service, which was not implemented.

5. Hushpuppi: Abba Kyari May Be Dismissed, Prosecuted – PSC

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has said deputy commissioner of police, Abba Kyari, might face dismissal or demotion, and criminal prosecution if any illegal link is found between him and Hushpuppi.

Recall that arrested fraudster Ramon Abba, popularly known as Ray Hushpuppi had claimed that he bribed Nigeria’s celebrated police chief Abba Kyari, US court documents reveal.

The infamous fraudster had also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to engage in money laundering, facing up to 20 years in jail according to the documents.

6. 2023: Lazy Politicians Demanding Southern Presidency – Northern Elders

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has declared that the Northern region would not be forced to vote for any presidential candidate against their will in 2023.

Speaking against the backdrop of the clamour for power to return to the south with a southern presidency, NEF through its spokesperson, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed said those championing the call for the southern presidency have to prove they deserve it by working for it.

He added that what the country needs at this time and going forward is not a northern or southern president but a Nigerian President.

7. Blessing Okagbare Suspended For Doping Before 100m Final

Nigerian sprinter Blessing Okagbare, one of the underdogs for the 100-meter final, was suspended for doping on Saturday (July 31st) after testing positive for growth hormone, the Unit said. athletic integrity (AIU).

The 2008 Olympic runner-up in the long jump, Okagbare (32) was tested out of the competition on July 19. She is the first athlete declared positive during the Olympic period of the Tokyo Games.

Okagbare, who was touted to win a medal, behind Jamaicans Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson-Herah, had struck the spirits by achieving a 10’63 (with 2m07 of favourable wind) during her championships national.

8. Tinubu Hospitalised In US, Undergoes Surgery

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, is currently hospitalised in Maryland, the United States, according to a report by SaharaReporters.

A further report revealed that the former Governor of Lagos State had surgery last week and might undergo another one over a yet-to-be-disclosed illness.

Tinubu had been away from the political scene for a while, amidst reports of him planning to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

9. Hushpuppi: Abba Kyari Gathers Lawyers, Threatens To Expose Police Officers

The embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, is reportedly gathering a team of lawyers to stop his arrest and extradition to the United States over links with Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi.

According to SaharaReporters, Abba Kyari is also threatening to expose other top police officers who have benefitted from his ‘generosity’, should he be handed over to the FBI and extradited.

Sources revealed that the head of the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT) warned that if his extradition is not stopped he would expose the “dirty jobs” he had done for past and present IGPs as well as top politicians.

10. Veteran Actress Rachel Oniga Is Dead

The death has been reported of veteran Nollywood actress, Rachel Oniga.

Truetells Nigeria gathered the Nigerian actress died on Friday at the age of 64 as confirmed by a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.

The screen goddess who began her acting career in 1993, shortly after her divorce has featured in many notable films.

Oniga was born on 23 May 1957 in Ebutte Metta, Lagos State.
