1. INEC Declares PDP’s Adeleke Winner Of Osun Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke winner of the Osun State Governorship election.

Adeleke defeated the incumbent governor of the state and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gboyega Oyetola and thirteen other candidates in the July 16th election.

The PDP governorship candidate was declared the winner at the head office of INEC in Osogbo, the state capital which was used as the collation centre.

Adeleke won 17 local government areas in the state, while the candidate of the APC, Oyetola won the remaining 13 local government areas in the state.

The incumbent governor of the state who was defeated in the election gathered 375,027 votes, while Adeleke polled 403,371 votes to win the election.

The INEC returning officer for the Osun State Governorship election, Prof Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe gave the declaration in the early hours of Sunday.

2. Osun: ‘The People Have Expressed Their Will’ – President Buhari Congratulates Adeleke

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday congratulated the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Ademola Adeleke on his victory in the Saturday gubernatorial election.

The President in a statement released through his spokesman, Femi Adesina, expressed confidence that the people of Osun have expressed their will through the ballot.

According to Buhari, the successful conduct of the Osun State governorship election on the 16th of July is a testimonial to the maturity and commitment of all stakeholders.

The statement reads, “President Muhammadu Buhari congratulates Senator Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), following the victory of the party in Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Osun State.

3. Adeleke: Osun Is Done, Aso Rock Villa Is Next – PDP Chairman

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu has commended members of the party for their efforts in ensuring victory in the Osun State 2022 governorship election.

Ayu in a statement on Sunday in which he reacted to the victory of Senator Ademola Adeleke in the governorship election of Osun state said the PDP reclaimed the victory it was robbed of in 2018.

He added that the party is not relenting but is focused on taking over power in the 2023 general elections as Nigerians are tired of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

4. Fayemi Sacks Political Appointees, Gives Reason For Action

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has sacked his political appointees ahead of the expiration of his tenure on October 16.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, made this known in a memo on behalf of the SSG on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The memo stated that the decision to sack the appointees was to ensure a seamless transition from the current administration to Governor-elect Biodun Oyebanji.

According to the memo dated July 15, 2022, the termination of the appointment takes effect from July 30, 2022.

The memo stated that the political appointees were the Senior Special Assistants, the Technical Assistants, the Special Assistants and Executive Assistants.

It further said the action will pave way for the State Government to process all outstanding allowances to affected appointees, for a smooth transition from the incumbent administration to the new government.

5. 2023: Peter Obi Means Well For Nigerians, I Don’t Underestimate Him – APC Chairman, Adamu

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Adamu, on Sunday stated that he does not underestimate the power of the opposition parties ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Adamu in his statement said he has no reason whatsoever to doubt his opponents in the 2023 race.

The APC Chairman further stated that the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Iyorchia Ayu and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi mean well for Nigerians.

Adamu stated this during an interview on Arise TV on Sunday.

6. Peter Obi, Datti Baba-Ahmed, Others Visit Obasanjo

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and former Anambra State, Peter Ibi, on Sunday paid a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Truetells Nigeria reports that Peter Obi, alongside his running mate, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, and the national chairman of Labour Party, Julius Abure, met with Obasanjo.

Photos from the meeting were shared on the microblogging platform Twitter by a former governorship candidate in Anambra, Oseloka Obaze.

7. Adeleke: IGP Baba Speaks On Peaceful Conduct Of Osun Guber Election

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has claimed that the presence of security agencies including the force assisted in the peaceful conduct of the governorship election in Osun State on Saturday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday confirmed the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the election.

Adeleke defeated the incumbent Governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola who contested under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Sunday after the end of the exercise, IGP Baba applauded security operatives for their comportment at Saturday’s governorship election.

The police boss in a statement released through the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the massive deployment of police operatives, specialised units, and other human and operational assets, including three helicopters and a couple of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for aerial surveillance was instrumental to the commendable exercise.

Baba mentioned that four adequately manned gunboats for the riverine areas and Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) were among the operational assets deployed for the election.

8. ASUU Strike: NLC Fixes Date To Shut Down Nigeria With Massive Nationwide Protest

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has fixed July 26 and 27 to embark on a nationwide protest to force the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve their issues and suspend the lingering strike.

Truetells Nigeria reports that ASUU had, on February 14, 2022, embarked on a strike over the Muhammadu Buhari-led government to implement agreements.

In a statement to journalists, NLC disclosed that the protest would take place in all 36 states and the FCT.

The statement reads, “In line with the decision of the National Executive Council, NEC meeting of the Nigerian Labour Congress held on 30th of June 2022, we have scheduled the National Days of Protest to get our children back to school and support our unions in Nigerians public universities fighting for quality education.

9. 2023: Atiku Seeks Obasanjo’s Endorsement For Presidency

The camp of the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, is planning to seek the support and open endorsement of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Truetells Nigeria reports that the National Publicity Secretary of the Atiku Support Organisation, Dr Victor Moses, made the disclosure in an interview with The PUNCH on Sunday.

Moses stated that genuine moves were underway to ensure that Obasanjo endorsed Atiku for the 2023 presidency the same way he did in the 2019 presidential election.

He stated that it seems Obasanjo is supporting another candidate, but the party and the Atiku camp are doing everything possible to win him over.

10. Osun Election: Oyetola Reacts To Adeleke’s Victory

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress and incumbent governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola has reacted to the victory of Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 16th, July gubernatorial election.

Oyetola in his reaction said the leadership of the APC are still studying the outcome of the governorship election.

The Osun State Governor in a statement released through his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan on Sunday said the APC would react after appraising the outcome of the election.

Oyetola called on his supporters in the state to remain calm and go about their businesses without hindrance.
