Nigerian Government Declares Public Holiday To Celebrate Democracy Day

The Nigerian government has declared Wednesday, June 12 as a public holiday to celebrate 2024 Democracy Day in the country.

 

 

This was announced in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry Dr Aishetu Gogo Ndayako and released on Tuesday.

 

 

The statement reads: “As we mark another Democracy day in the history of our dear country, let us all reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains a united, secured, peaceful and indivisible entity”.

 

The country’s Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo also urged Nigerians to remain steadfast on the tenets of democratic governance and reiterated that President Bola Tinubu is committed to positive reforms to revive the nation’s economy and enhance security.

 

 

The Minister also called on Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to appreciate the progress that has been made, and look forward to a better future for Nigeria’s Democracy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

It was earlier reported that this year’s Democracy Day celebration will kick off with a symposium on Tuesday,  June 11, 2024.

 

 

 

The symposium is billed to hold at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja, at 9 am.

 

 

Then by 6 pm on the same day,  a youth conference will be held at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Abuja Continental Hotel, Abuja.

 

This was according to a statement on Sunday by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Abdulhakeem Adeoye.

 

The statement read, “The programmes lined up for the celebration include a symposium on Tuesday, June 11, at 9:00 am at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

 

“Later that day, a youth conference will be held at Ladi Kwali Hall, Abuja Continental Hotel, Abuja, at 6 pm.

 

“A grand parade will take place on Wednesday, June 12, at 8 am at Eagle Square, Abuja,” followed by “a dinner at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, at 6pm.”
