Nigerian Gold Medalist Nwokocha Suspended For Doping

The 21-year-old athlete was part of the team that won gold in the 4x100m relay at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Nigerian sprinter Nzubechi Grace Nwokocha, has been provisionally suspended for using banned substances, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said.

Nwokocha helped Nigeria beat England and Jamaica in the Commonwealth Games in August by running the anchor leg. Others in the team were Rosemary Chukwuma, Tobi Amusan and Favour Ofili.

The quartet set a new African record of 42.10s.

Meanwhile, Nwokocha has been suspended by the AIU after her blood samples showed the presence or use of prohibited substances

“(Ostarine & amp; Ligandrol) (Article 2.1 and Article 2.2),” the unit said in a statement on Twitter.

By being suspended provisionally, Nwokocha is temporarily banned from participating in any competition or activity in athletics until there is a final decision at a hearing conducted under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules or the Integrity Code of Conduct.

Nigeria may also lose its Commonwealth Games’ 4x100m Women’s gold medal.
