With much anticipation, Nigerians would go out today to exercise their civic rights by voting for new leadership for the nation as President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure elapsed in May 2023.
At the poll today, electorates can vote for their preferred presidential and national assembly members. They will again wait till March to decide on their state leaders in the Governorship elections.

In 2023, the region recorded a total of 9.64 million votes, while in the most recent 2019 election, it led other regions still, garnering an overall 8.61 million votes.
The South-South had the highest voter turnouts in the year 1999. The Northwest region, however, began to lead the chat from 2003 through 2019.
Recall that the top four major contenders at the polls today include: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar; All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu; Labour Party, Peter Obi (LP); New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; amongst others.

Gov Diri Sends Important Message To Bayelsa People As Election Begins
Meanwhile, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has sent a word of advice to residents of the state and Nigerians as they go out to vote for their preferred presidential and senatorial candidates today.
Due to this, Diri, who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urged the people to conduct themselves peacefully as they exercise their civic responsibilities today.
The governor gave the admonition via his official social media page as he confirmed his arrival at his home country, Sampou, in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
“I am safely in my country home of Sampou in Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA of Bayelsa State ahead of the Presidential and National Assembly Elections today. I urge our people to come out en masse to cast their votes and conduct themselves in a peaceful manner. Truly, election is not war,” the PDP chieftain wrote on his Twitter page on Saturday morning.
