The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Apapa command has unveiled recent seizures at the Apapa Port on Wednesday.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, in a press briefing revealed significant seizures by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) at the Apapa Port.
The seized goods, valued at NGN 1.8 billion, include expired and controlled pharmaceutical products, underscoring the NCS’s commitment to safeguarding public health and security.
The recent operation, which saw 12 containers seized, was a result of rigorous examinations by customs officers.
Among the contraband were expired medications and pharmaceuticals that lacked National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) registration numbers.
These products, if released, could have posed serious health risks and fueled criminal activities.
Key seizures included:
-Container SEGU4339917: Found to contain expired health supplements and various pharmaceuticals.
-Container DFSU 1362498: Contained Royal Tramadol concealed with expired analgesics and lacked NAFDAC registration.
-Container PCIU 1934537: Held rolls of tramadol concealed with expired pharmaceuticals.
-Container CAIU 2167874: Contained tramadol concealed with expired medicines.
-Container SEGU 6326800: Found to contain codeine hidden among expired pharmaceuticals.
-Container DFSU 7320205: Seized for containing codeine and tramadol concealed with expired products.
-Container TCKU 6880985: Contained expired pharmaceuticals without NAFDAC numbers.
Additionally, two containers were seized for carrying a total of 27,540 cutlasses and machetes.
Comptroller-General commended Comptroller Babatunde Olomu and his team for their exemplary performance.
He emphasized the Apapa Command’s crucial role in handling the highest trade volume and revenue for the NCS.
The Comptroller-General reiterated the NCS’s unwavering commitment to facilitating legitimate trade while enforcing strict controls to prevent smuggling and protect public health.
He urged port users to engage only in legitimate trade practices, assuring that the NCS will continue to act decisively against all forms of contraband.
