The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command, has launched a formal investigation into a viral video showing officers allegedly maltreating some members of the public. The incident, which has sparked widespread criticism, is being thoroughly examined to ensure accountability and justice.

In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Superintendent Hussaini Abdullahi, the NCS condemned the actions captured in the video, describing them as unethical and inconsistent with the values and operational standards of the Service.

Immediate Action Taken

The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Kayode Kolade, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the officers involved in the incident. The CAC directed that the officers undergo interrogation to facilitate a detailed investigation.

Comptroller Kolade assured the public of a transparent process, stating, “Decisive disciplinary measures will be taken against any officer found culpable. The findings of the investigative panel will be made public to maintain accountability and uphold public trust.”

Commitment to Ethical Standards

The command expressed deep empathy for the affected individuals and emphasized its commitment to ethical conduct and professionalism. The CAC reiterated the NCS’s dedication to fostering a safe and conducive environment for legitimate trade along the Lagos-Abidjan Corridor.

“We urge all stakeholders and members of the public to continue their lawful activities with confidence. The Seme Area Command remains committed to ensuring a secure and supportive atmosphere for trade and commerce,” Comptroller Kolade added.

Call for Collaboration
