Spanish football club, FC Barcelona had earlier announced in an official statement that their captain, Messi, will be leaving Camp Nou as a free agent this summer.
Naija News reports that Messi’s contract with the La Liga giants expired on July 1 and he was believed to have agreed on fresh terms on half of his wages.
Things, however, didn’t go well and the new contract couldn’t be finalised with the Catalans “due to financial and structural problems [rules relating to the Spanish topflight league]”.
The Argentine has since then been linked with a move to the French Ligue 1 giants.
Reports emerging on Friday afternoon had it that PSG’s efforts to sign Messi are now in full swing, with the club’s players also making attempts to convince the six-time Ballon d’Or to join them.
In this regard, Neymar who had played alongside Messi at Camp Nou reportedly pledged to offer his number 10 shirt to win the 34-year-old over.
