New Chief Of Army Staff, Yahaya Pays Last Respect To Predecessor, Attahiru
Truetells Nigeria reports that the new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya, has paid his last respect to his predecessor, late Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru.
This online news platform can recall that just last Friday, Attahiru and other military officers died in an air crash heading to Kaduna from Abuja. They were buried the following day.
Yahaya signed the condolence register at the headquarters of the Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri, Borno State.
The command, located at Maimalari Cantonment, is responsible for counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.
Born on January 5, 1966 in Sifawa, Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto, Yahaya is a member of the 37 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
The new COAS was commissioned into the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps on September 22, 1990.
He was Garrison Commander, Headquarters Guards Brigade; Directing Staff, Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC); Deputy Director, Army Research and Development; and Chief of Staff, Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation Pulo Shield.
Yahaya also served as the Principal General Staff Officer (PGSO) to the Minister of Defence and Commander, Headquarters 4 Brigade and 29 Task Force Brigade (Operation Zaman Lafiya).
He was formerly Military Secretary; General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, and Theatre Commander Operation HADIN KAI.
The new Chief will assume office today at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
