The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to pay some of its ad-hoc staff members who participated in the 2023 general elections in the Agege local government area of Lagos State, months after the polls.
Some of the staff members, who expressed their displeasure to SaharaReporters on Sunday, urged the electoral umpire to pay them without further delay.
Some of them said they regretted participating in the polls.
One of the ad-hoc staff members told SaharaReporters that he had been visiting the INEC office in Agege local government area with a printed statement of his bank account to show that he had not yet been paid.
The source said as of Sunday, he still had not been paid his entitlements.
He said, “I am Anede, I work as INEC ad-hoc staff in the 2023 presidential and governorship elections. I worked at Old Ipaja Road, Agege local government area of Lagos State. Up till now, for the two ad-hoc works – presidential and governorship elections, the money has not been paid yet.
“I have gone to Agege local government countless times without any payment. I have printed statements of account several times, yet there is no payment yet.
“At the local government, a lot of people complained that even for the 2019 general elections, the local government refused to pay any ad-hoc staff up till now. So we want INEC to look into the matter and pay us, we are not begging them for money because we worked for it.”
