The security convoy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was reportedly attacked in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.
Truetells Nigeria reports that a mammoth crowd of PDP supporters on Wednesday turned up for the campaign rally at Ake Palace Arcade following the Ogun State Ministry of Sports and Youths Development’s statement that the MKO Abiola Stadium is under renovation and will not be available for the campaign.
Atiku, his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa; and other PDP Presidential Campaign Council officials including the party’s governorship candidate in Ogun, Ladi Adebutu were also at the event.
However, a video that emerged online shows the security convoy of Atiku being attacked in Abeokuta which caused chaos on the road.
Some thugs were seen stoning the security vehicles before they started shooting sporadically into the air and many people were seen scampering for safety.
Tinubu Fires Atiku
The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has slammed his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Atiku Abubakr, over his recent comments against him.
Recall that the spokesman of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Kola Ologbodiyan, had on Wednesday described Tinubu as an artful dodger who was trying to create a diversion from his crimes by carrying out character assassination on Atiku.
Reacting, Tinubu, speaking through the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), asked Atiku to come clean on allegations of money laundering and sundry charges regarding a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) account operated when he was vice president between 1999 and 2007.
In a statement on Wednesday night by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, the APC PCC advised the PDP to come clean on the allegations against his presidential candidate if the party has any modicum of respect for Nigerians, and has any concern for the Nigerian youths and a future without corruption.
Onanuga said instead of the PDP defending its presidential candidate, the party embarked on a puerile diversionary journey by drumming up a stale allegation against Tinubu.
He described PDP’s attack on Tinubu as a shameless skirting of issues, adding that it will ensure that the PDP flag bearer answer to all the corruption allegations levelled against him by his former media aide, Michael Achimugu.
