Lionel Messi has been left out of the Ligue 1 Team of the Year for the 2021-22 season after struggling to make an impact at Paris Saint-Germain.
Â
Messi joined the French giants in the summer after leaving Barcelona. However, since his arrival he has scored just one goal and registered five assists in ten league matches.
Â
The 34-year-old has also been overshadowed by his PSG team-mate Kylian Mbappe and has subsequently been left out of Football Observatory’s prolific XI.
Â
Neymar – who has been plagued by injuries and struggled to find the back of the net – has also been left out of the Team of the Year for the 2021-22 season so far.
Â
Meanwhile, the likes of Achraf Hakimi – who joined the club in the same transfer window as Messi – claimed a space in the squad, taking the right wingback position.
Â
Presnel Kimpembe and Idrissa Gueye have also impressed over the first half of the season for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and secured a place in the XI.
Â
Marseille’s star player, Dimitri Payet, also landed a place in the team after scoring 13 goals in 14 games.
Â
Manchester United’s transfer target Kamara has impressed enough this season to warrant a place in team.
Â
United regard Kamara as a ready-made replacement for Paul Pogba, should the midfielder leave as a free agent next summer as expected.
Â
The youngster is on the verge of running down his deal and could be available for free at the end of the season, should he fail to agree fresh terms with Marseille.
Â
Although, Kamara rejected deadline-day moves to Wolves and Newcastle United in the most recent market.
Â
Arsenal outcast William Saliba has also proved his worth – having landed a place on the prolific XI after being sent out on loan by the Gunners.
Â
The 20-year-old, who is currently on loan at Marseille in Ligue 1, has established himself as key player under manager Jorge Sampaoli.
Â
Saliba has made 21 appearances in all competitions so far this season, and been a consistent performer at the heart of the defence.
