A man was sighted with a Point Of Sale(POS) machine at Lugu Area Polling Unit, Wammakko LGA, Sokoto State, collecting voters’ bank account details.
SaharaReporters gathered that at the polling unit which is located in Gidan Dare community of Wammako local government area of the state, the electorates were still waiting for the arrival of INEC officials and security operatives to commence the election when the man approached them and asked them to vote for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the election.
Our source at the polling unit said, “A voter sighted with POS at Lugu Area Polling Unit, Wammakko LGA, Sokoto State while voters await the arrival of officials and security personnel.
“Electorates are registering with him, gibing their banking details while he urges them to vote for a particular party.”
“The code is: simsiya za ka zabe vote for broom,” he added.
Meanwhile, SaharaReporters had reported how Mallam Ango, a resident of Wamakko Local Government, Sokoto State, alleged that political actors in his community promised all residents N2,000 if they voted for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
In a conversation with SaharaReporters, Ango claimed that it was a usual practice in his community for people to demand money before voting in any of the general elections.
He claimed they were promised N2000 per head to vote for Tinubu, an increase from the N1000 they were promised to vote for Buhari during the 2019 general elections.
He said the increment could be due to the competition the APC now faced in the state from the Peoples Democratic Party.
