Nollywood actors and actresses are not left behind in the sad trend of broken promises in marriages, which inadvertently leads to divorce.
However, the end of a failed marriage does not really translate to the end of the world, as many celebrities rose high above the stigma and excelled in their career and businesses.
Olaniyi Afonja
Omolara Olaiya, the wife of Yoruba actor, Olaniyi Afonja, popularly known as Sanyeri announced their divorce on social media, today 4th December.
Omolara, who got married to Olaniyi in 2007, in a lengthy post disclosed that she had been separated from the actor for nine years.
She wrote: “This is to clarify some misconceptions concerning my marriage and private life.
“People need to be mindful of being judgemental to adults especially the ones with kids who can decide to maintain a cordial relationship for the sake of their children.
“It doesn’t mean they don’t know what they are doing not everyone wants the media in their Private lives as such people should and the devil to mind their business.
“I have been single for exactly 9 years and co-parenting with my ex-husband hasn’t been all bed of roses for us.
Even if we are no longer living in the same country I still do well to perform my right duties and what is expected of a single mother and a woman with kids.
“Also, he does the same duties and fatherly rights for our children. If in all of this you still choose to be insensitive please don’t bring it here henceforth I won’t tolerate anyone interfering in my private life.
“I choose happiness over drama and so be it thanks I remain on Omolara Olaiya Jimoh.”
Gideon Okeke
Nollywood actor, Gideon Okeke on Sunday, 23rd October confirmed separation from his wife, Chidera, after four years of marriage.
The couple, who got married in 2019, was blessed with two sons together, although the actor had previously welcomed a child with his ex-partner in 2016.
According to the actor, in a post shared on his Instagram page, he was served ‘breakfast’, and it has been a hard hot pill to swallow.
He further pleaded with people to give them privacy as they work towards a final dissolution of their marriage.
Funke Akindele
The powerful couple in the entertainment industry, Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, aka JJC Skillz, went their separate ways after being married for 6 years.
This comes after the rapper and producer, JJC Skillz on June 30th, 2022, announced their breakup on his social media page.
The marriage had crashed following a range of issues, which the couple refused to disclose to the media.
The couple who got married in May 2016 is blessed with a set of twins (boys).
Kunle Afod
The wife of Yoruba actor, Kunle Afod, Desola, on the 25th of October announced that she and her husband have parted ways.
Desola made the announcement in a terse message on her Instagram page on Tuesday.
She wrote, “The good news you wanna hear. I left Kunle Afod.”
Desola and Kunle have four sons together. However, the actor had earlier welcomed a daughter with an ex-lover before his marriage to Desola.
