LASG CHAMPIONS ETHICAL STANDARDS IN PUBLIC SERVICE TO MARK GLOBAL ETHICS DAY 2024

… As PSSDC Partners ASJEV To Promote Ethical Values

As part of its unwavering commitment to social justice and global ethical standards, the Lagos State Government, through the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) and in collaboration with the Advocacy for Social Justice and Ethical Values Initiatives (ASJEV), organised a press briefing today to commemorate Global Ethics Day 2024, at the PSSDC, Magodo Ikeja, with the theme “Ethics Empowered”.

Speaking at the press briefing, the Director-General of PSSDC, Mr. Adekunmilola Toluwase Adio-Moses emphasised the need for all citizens to contribute positively to society by promoting discipline, morality, and professionalism. He highlighted the importance of fostering ethical standards within all sectors, stating that it is through these values that individuals can create a lasting impact on their communities.

He further explained that “Ethics empower us to make a difference, not only in our professional lives but also in the broader society, Hence, it is incumbent upon us to instil these values for the greater good.”

In her opening address, Mrs. G.K. Daodu, a member of ASJEV, underscored the critical role of the family unit in shaping the ethical values of individuals. She emphasised that families are the foundational building blocks of society, capable of fostering a nation where truth and justice prevail.

“Through this press briefing, we hope to promote ethical values by drawing the attention of people from all walks of life to the negative effects of poor ethical standards and collectively come up with realistic solutions in creating a more ethical society,” she stated.

Adding to the discourse, Mr. Ayodeji Abdulrauf, FCS, CBAP, delivered a lecture on Ethics Empowered for the Socio-Economic Development of the Society. He stressed the role of trust and ethical behaviour in driving sustainable economic growth, noting that trust fosters progress, innovation, and social cohesion.

“Trust can drive progress, investment, and cohesion. Empowering ethics in any society will not only unlock their full potential but also cultivate a culture of trust, innovation, and collaboration with a high level of citizens’ satisfaction and commitment,” Mr. Abdulrauf emphasised.

Dr. (Mrs.) Nike Oduwole, another representative from ASJEV, elaborated on the families’ vital role in instilling ethical values during an individual’s formative years. She pointed out that families play a pivotal role in shaping future generations who can uphold high ethical standards.

The event also featured remarks from Dr. Senukon O. Ajose-Harrison, FCIPM, who discussed the ethical challenges facing Nigeria’s economy. He emphasised that strong ethical practices are essential drivers of economic growth and sustainability.

The high point of the Press Briefing was the presentation of a compendium celebrating PSSDCs 30th anniversary by the Director-General of PSSDC, Mr. Adekunmilola Toluwase Adio-Moses, reflecting on three decades of commitment to public service development and ethical leadership.

The Lagos State Government, through the PSSDC, remains committed to promoting ethical standards as a means of enhancing public service and fostering socio-economic development across the State.
