Lagos to Enforce Sanctions on 2025 Land Use Charge Defaulters as 2026 Bills Are Released

The Lagos State Ministry of Finance has announced plans to begin enforcement actions against property owners who have failed to pay their 2025 Land Use Charge (LUC) once the 2026 bills are fully issued.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Tajudeen Mahmud Alao, urged property owners across Lagos to take advantage of the 15 percent early payment discount by settling their Land Use Charge within the approved payment window.

According to him, the Land Use Charge is more than a legal requirement for property owners; it also plays a critical role in supporting the state’s development agenda.

He explained that funds generated from the charge contribute to the construction and maintenance of essential infrastructure such as roads, healthcare facilities, schools, security systems, and environmental sanitation.

Alao emphasized that timely payment of the tax will help the state government sustain the delivery of key public services and infrastructure projects aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.

Revenue generated through the Land Use Charge has supported several major projects in the state, including the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line and the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line, which are designed to improve urban mobility and reduce travel time across the metropolis.

The funds have also been used for the construction and rehabilitation of major roads and bridges, expansion and modernization of healthcare facilities, and strengthening of security initiatives to create a safer environment for residents and businesses.

Property owners can settle their Land Use Charge through several channels, including internet banking, designated bank branches across the state, USSD mobile payments, and Point of Sale (POS) terminals available at LUC offices.

Payments can also be made via the Lagos Online Assistant (LOLA) WhatsApp payment platform and the Lagos Revenue Portal.
