25-year-old Ethiopian woman, Kebene Chala has emerged as the first woman to get to the finish line at the 2024 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon held on Saturday.
Meanwhile, a Kenyan citizen, Bernard Sang, was the first person to cross the line at the City Marathon.
Bernard Sang arrived at the exit at 2:16:51 secs to clinch the first position.

In a post shared on official X account, Access Bank wrote:
“25-year-old Kebene Chala of Ethiopia emerges, as the first woman to get to the finish line at the 2024 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon. #RunLagosWithAccess #FindYourFeat #ABLCM2024”
In series of tweets, the Bank announced that a Nigerian, Shehu Muazu is the first Nigerian to reach the finish line of the 2024 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
“Shehu Muazu breaks through the tape, marking his place as the first Nigerian to reach the finish line of the 2024 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon!,” the Bank noted.
Meanwhile, the bank in a statement published on its website about the marathon, had stated that “This February, the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon will join other elite races across the world with over 100,000 runners expected to participate in the 42Km full marathon and the 10Km fun run.”
It had listed the 42km Access Bank Lagos City Marathon 2024 Elite Athletes prize money for men and women as follows:
“1st Position $30,000; 2nd Position $20,000; 3rd Position $15,000; 4th Position $12,000; 5th Position $10,000; 6th Position $8,000; 7th Position $6,000; 8th Position $4,000; 9th Position $2,000 and 10th Position $1,000.”
