JUST IN: Suspected cultists abduct five students in Rivers community

Five students were abducted by suspected cultists in the early hours of Monday morning in the Rumuohia community of Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State.

Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, reported that approximately five armed men stormed an isolated section of the community around 2:30 AM, opened fire, and took the students to an undisclosed location.

The official statement from the Command confirms the incident: “On 2nd December 2025 at about 0230hrs, a group of suspected cultists, numbering about five, attacked an isolated area in Rumuche/Rumuohia community, Emohua Local Government Area,” the statement reads.

“The hoodlums shot and abducted five persons to an unknown destination.”
The spokesperson confirmed that the police have launched a full-scale investigation and are actively working to rescue the students.

In a swift reaction to the report, Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju, accompanied by other service commanders, visited the scene for an immediate assessment.

The CP has directed the area commander, all tactical units, and the joint task force to step up efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of the perpetrators.

He emphasized that every suspect connected to the crime will be apprehended and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. He urged residents to remain calm and to volunteer any credible information that could aid the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, sources close to the incident have indicated that the abducted individuals are students of the Emohua satellite campus of the Rivers State University (RSU).

The tragedy follows student protests last week, where off-campus residents called on the school management to relocate them to the safer main campus in Port Harcourt due to repeated cult-related attacks in the community.
