Governor Ademola Adeleke has resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) less than 24 hours before the party’s scheduled governorship primary election.
The Osun State PDP Chairman, Mr. Sunday Bisi, had stated on Monday that the party would not proceed with the primary election on Tuesday as initially scheduled. Bisi attributed this cancellation to an internal factional crisis within the party and claimed that Governor Adeleke was no longer interested in seeking the party’s nomination due to the turmoil.
However, a letter released by the party’s national secretariat maintained that the primary election would still take place on Tuesday at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in the state capital.
In a move that further complicates the situation, a resignation letter from the Governor, dated November 4, 2025, surfaced on Monday evening. The letter, addressed to the party Chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, cited the party’s crisis as the reason for his decision to leave.
The letter, titled: “Resignation of my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),” reads:
“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my Membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.
“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”
