The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the personal particulars of candidates and their running mates, nominated by 17 political parties for the gubernatorial candidates of the political parties ahead of the November 11 governorship election in Imo State.
This was contained in a statement issued by INEC on Friday evening, adding that the particulars were published in its state headquarters in Owerri, the state capital.
According to the commission in the statement, the publication of the particulars of the candidates and their running mates was in accordance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.
“In accordance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, the Commission today published the personal particulars of candidates and their running mates, nominated by 17 political parties for the Imo State Governorship election, in our State headquarters, Owerri.
“The election will hold on Saturday 11th November 2023.”
However, reacting to the development, Dumebi Ifeanyichukwu, the Director-General of the Samuel Anyanwu Campaign Council, noted that the commission confirmed the candidature of Anyanwu as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Dr. Jones Onyereri as his deputy.
He explained that the confirmation would go a long way to prove that Anyanwu was well prepared for the task ahead, while other guber candidates in the state are yet to pick their running mates.
