INEC closes defence in petition filed by Peter Obi and Labour Party

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, July 4, opened and closed its defence in the petition filed by Peter Obi and the Labour Party (LP) before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).

The commission closed its defence after its sole witness, Dr. Lawrence Bayode, a Deputy Director in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department of INEC, testified before the tribunal. Some documents were also presented as evidence.

Bayode in his testimony, said blurred documents uploaded on the IREV does not affect the physical results recorded in Forms EC8As which are not blurred. He insisted that the images of Forms EC8A captured with BVAS and transmitted to IREV are not relevant for the collation of results.

He also told the tribunal that the glitch recorded during the last presidential election did not affect the collation of results of the election.

President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima’s lawyer, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) also disclosed that his clients will open their defence in the petition on Wednesday, July 5.
