Former Chelsea man Victor Moses is still in Russia playing for Spartak Moscow
Moses, 32, nevertheless plays an important role for Spartak despite the fact that a number of foreign athletes have chosen to leave the country in the last year.
The 38-time Nigerian international played ten times and scored twice in the Premier Liga during a season marred by injuries in 2022–23, during which he missed half of the campaign due to Achilles tendon surgery.
Since FIFA permitted international players playing in Russia to break their contracts when the Russian government began its invasion of Ukraine, there has been a significant outflow of foreign players from the country during the past year.
There was also an urgent appeal to temporarily relax transfer laws so that players with Russian addresses might sign with new teams for the balance of the 2021–2022 campaign.
Moses, however, had a reported transfer to Burnley halted by the Premier League in order to protect “sporting integrity,” as the deal was expected to occur late in the Clarets’ struggle to avoid relegation, which they ultimately lost.
Victor is a Spartak player, and he wants to help Spartak, according to Dmitry Zelenov, the club’s head of press, in response to reports that Moses is planning to leave the team. He backs it up with actions and words.
Moses’ current contract is slated to end in June of next year, therefore barring a transfer.
The winner of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations spent around a year on loan from Chelsea at Feberbahce, scoring five goals in 23 appearances across all competitions, before returning to Italy in January 2020 to reconnect with Antonio Conte at Inter Milan.
The young Crystal Palace player, who had been signed by Wigan Athletic in 2010, was quickly signed by Chelsea. He played 128 times for Chelsea, contributing to 31 goals while playing as either a winger or a wing-back.
He won the FA Cup, two Europa Leagues, and the Premier League in 2017 while playing for Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge.
Before moving on to subsequent loan agreements with Fenerbache and Inter Milan, Moses also spent time on loan at Liverpool, Stoke City, and West Ham in England.
After spending the prior year on loan at the Otkrytie Bank Arena, he made the permanent switch to Spartak in 2021.
Fenerbahce is supposedly a potential destination for the 32-year-old, but that will remain out of the realm of rumors since his contract with Russian Premier League club Spartak Moscow expires after the 2023–2024 season.
This comes in response to remarks made by Selahattin Baki, a member of Fenerbahce’s board of directors, who stated that the team is not aiming to strengthen in that position.
Spartak Moscow has had Victor Moses on its books since 2020, initially on loan until coming to an arrangement with Chelsea to bring the former Super Eagle to a permanent contract in July 2021.
After two years, Moses’ association with “the peoples team” may be coming to an end, according to Russian news reports that claim he wants to leave Spartak Moscow this summer.
Victor Moses, a former member of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, was once hailed by the Russian team Spartak Moscow as the greatest winger in the league.
Prior to that, Spartak Moscow saw the 32-year-old as a key member of the squad and intended to offer him a new contract, despite his request to quit the club because of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The club concluded by saying, “We are happy that Spartak has a player of this caliber. How long will he be a Spartak player? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: we have no guarantees for any players, with the exception of the Russians, in the current situation.
