Nigerian rapper Ice Prince has responded to the backlash that trailed his performance at the 2026 national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where critics accused him of entertaining the ruling party despite the country’s worsening insecurity and economic hardship.
The controversy followed widespread reactions on social media, with some Nigerians faulting the artiste for taking the stage at the political event and urging him to be more vocal about governance issues affecting citizens.
Speaking on the Black Box Podcast, Ice Prince clarified that his decision to perform was influenced by a personal connection. He explained that the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, who booked him for the event, is not just an acquaintance but a close relative.
According to him, “Who booked me for that event? My uncle, Nentawe Yilwatda, who is the APC Chairman. He is not just a random person to me. He is my real uncle.”
Meanwhile, the rapper also addressed his views on marriage, saying he is not in a hurry to settle down. He explained that observing several failed marriages and the financial pressure surrounding weddings has made him more cautious.
Ice Prince noted that many couples end up separating shortly after marriage, while others go into heavy debt to fund extravagant ceremonies. He added that he has also seen friends frequently seek financial assistance to organize weddings, a situation he wants to avoid.
