How Popular Nigerian University Recommended 21 Admission Seekers With Fake Results

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reported that 21 candidates with fraudulent results were proposed for 2023 admissions by several institutions.

Truetells Nigeria reports that According to a policy document recently seen by journalists in Abuja, it was highlighted that 12 of these candidates were recommended by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

“JAMB discovered that 21 candidates who paraded fake IJMB results were recommended during the 2023 admission. They were not approved.

“Twelve of the recommendations were by ABU, Zaria – what an audacious attitude. Recommendations were possible because certificate screening was done after Registration, Five institutions were involved in the recommendations; JAMB insists that all certificates must have the signature of the Head of the institution (VC/Provost/Rector),” the policy document noted.

In 2021, JAMB launched the Nigerian Post-Secondary Education Data System verification platform to authenticate IJMB and JUPEB examination results.

This initiative was prompted by a professional investigation conducted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, which revealed irregularities and instances of result falsification.

A recent statement from the ICPC highlighted the need to address these discrepancies in the JUPEB Board’s IJMB examination results, emphasizing the importance of taking decisive action to prevent further occurrences.

In a bulletin, JAMB indicated that it was imperative for the board, as the regulatory body overseeing both examinations, to implement necessary measures to curtail these unacceptable practices.

“These proactive measures as well as others that are in the pipeline, are to ensure that the gains recorded in the education sector, especially the examination sub-sector over the years, are not eroded by unscrupulous individuals who do not mean well for Nigeria,” JAMB stated.
