A Globus bank marketer, identified as Amarachu Ugochukwu on Wednesday committed suicide at her workplace in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
This was confirmed to SaharaReporters by the state police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Thursday morning.
It was learned that Amarachu died locked herself in the bank’s toilet and ingested pesticide.
Announcing Amarachu’s death on X (formerly Twitter), a user, Just Society shared a handwritten note reportedly written by the deceased, explaining that her decision was because of the hardship she faced in life.
The note reads: “NOTING IS WORKING IN MY LIFE. MY FIGURES ARE COLD. MY BRAIN IS CLOGGED UP. THE ECONOMY IS GETTING HARDER. MY DECISIONS ARE WRONG. MY DECISIONS ARE WRONG. MY MIND IS MESSED UP.
“THE FUTURE DOESN’T SEEM BRIGHT AT ALL, I SEE EXTREME HARDSHIP. I CAN’T BEAR THE PAIN ANYMORE.
“I’M SORRY MUM, I’M SORRY DAD, I’M SORRY MEME, OKWE, NAZOR, CHUCHU, IFUNANYA.”
In a similar event, SaharaReporters reported how Olatunji Olayinka Emmanuel, a final-year student of the Department of English, Faculty of Arts, University of Lagos committed suicide in November 2023.
This was confirmed to SaharaReporters by the university’s public relations officer, Alagba Ibrahim.
Ibrahim said Emmanuel had registered and paid for the current semester before his demise.
“He has paid and registered for the semester. The entire University community commiserates with the Olatunji family, and prays that God grants the bereaved family the strength and fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss,” the university PRO said.
In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, Emmanuel is seen ingesting insecticide. He, however, did not give any hint as to what pushed him to take his decision.
The Nigeria Police Force also confirmed the death of a tricenarian, Mallam Abdullahi Ardo who was said to have committed suicide in Bauchi State a few days before the death of Olatunji.
