Heartbreaking photo of woman holding her child killed by stray bullet fired by alleged NSCDC officer in Imo

The heartbreaking photo of a mother carrying the corpse of her son allegedly killed by the stray bullet fired by some persons alleged to be operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Owerri, Imo state on Monday, April 17, has gone viral.

The viral photo shows the distraught mother covered in blood and carrying the corpse of her son stained in his own blood.

Confirming the incident to LIB, the spokesperson of the Imo state police command, ASP Henry Okoye, said the police received eyewitness reports about some men dressed in NSCDC uniforms who stormed the area and began shooting sporadically. Okoye said the eyewitnesses stated that one of the bullets hit and killed the child. He said the police has commenced an investigation into the incident to determine if the gunmen were indeed NSCDC officials or hoodlums dressed in the uniform of the paramilitary outfit.
