The Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, on Tuesday, was absent when other governorship candidates signed a peace accord ahead of the state gubernatorial election.
The peace accord was initiated by the Justice, Development, Peace and Caritas Commission, the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, the National Voter’s Drive Coalition and the Imo Advocacy Group.
All of the candidates present vowed to hold a credible, peaceful election free of violence on November 11, 2023.
When contacted, the Special Assistant to the governor on print media, Modestus Nwankpa, told Leadership newspaper that Governor Uzodinma was a peace lover who worked tirelessly to keep the state peaceful and quiet.
He stated that the governor was on a tight schedule and could not attend the function on time.
Candidates from political parties include Senator Athan Achonu of the Labour Party (LP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Okere John Jude of the Accord Party (AP), Maj Gen Lincoln Ogunewe (rtd) of the Action Alliance, and Sir Anthony Ejiogu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), among others.
The peace accord, which was signed in the Assumpta Cathedral in Owerri, Imo State’s capital, is intended to give a venue for all gubernatorial candidates to discuss their manifestos, ambitions, and goals with Imo citizens who want to hear from the candidates.
