Full List of APC, PDP Governors That Won, Lost Re-election

Of the 28 state governorship elections conducted across the country on Saturday, March 18, only 11 sitting governors battled for reelection for a second term in office.

Truetells Nigeria reports that governorship and house of assembly elections were conducted on Saturday in states. However, this article is focused on sitting governors who won and lost their re-election bids at the polls.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced announcements of poll winners on Sunday upon the successful collation of election results from different polling units across the states.

Below is the list of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidates who won their reelection bids:

They are Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State and Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.

Seyi Makinde Wins In PDP

The incumbent governor of Oyo State won his reflection after defeating his top challengers from the Labour Party (LP), Akinwale Tayo, and candidate of the APC, Senator Teslim Folarin.

Naija News reports that Makinde polled 563,756 votes to defeat his Folarin, who scored 256,685 in the results of the 33 local governments in the South-West states.

Declaring Makinde as the winner earlier today, INEC Returning Officer in the state, Prof Adebayo Simeon, said, “That Makinde Oluseyi Abiodun of the PDP, having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected by the Returning Officer, Prof Adebayo Simeon on this day 19th of March 2023.”

Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq Wins For APC

Kwara State citizens helped APC’s Governor AbdulRazaq to return to power on Saturday, March 18, 2023. Abdrulrazaq was declared the winner of the gubernatorial election after polling 273,424 to defeat his closest opponents — Abdullah Yahman of the PDP, who scored 155,490 and Hakeem Lawal of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who got 18,922 votes.

Dapo Abiodun Wins For APC

In Ogun State, Governor Abiodun got reelected into the office for a second term after polling 276,298 to defeat his closest rivals — Ladi Adebutu of the PDP, who scored 262,383, as well as Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) who got 94,754 votes and who has the backing of former governor and serving APC senator, Ibikunle Amosun.

The election results in the state were announced by the state returning officer in the state, Prof Kayode Adebowale, Naija News reports. “That Abiodun Adedapo Oluseun of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned election,” Adebowale stated.

Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya Wins Gombe For APC

APC’s Yahaya of Gombe State in North-East Nigeria scored 342,821 to defeat his close contender, Mohammed Jibrin Barde of the PDP, who scored 233,131.

Ahmed Mailantarki of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) came third with 19,861 votes, while Keftin Amuga of the LP scored 1,753.

Mai Mala Buni Wins In APC

On Sunday, Gombe State Returning Officer, Prof Umar Pate, declared Governor Mala-Buni as the winner of the governorship polls this weekend.

Announcing the result at the INEC headquarters in Damaturu earlier, Pate said the APC Governorship candidate scored 317,113 at the polls to defeat his closest rival, Sheriff Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 104,259.

Truetells Nigeria reports that the results of the other states are still being collated by INEC as it continues the collation till Monday.
