Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Monday expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the Port Harcourt Ring Road project following an unscheduled inspection of the construction site, including the Creek Bridge.
Speaking at the end of the tour — which drew loud applause from community members and residents at each stop — Governor Fubara said Julius Berger Nigeria PLC has “done a great job” supporting his administration’s efforts to develop the state. “You can see and feel the speed and positive changes coming up,” he said, thanking the contractor for its work across Rivers State. “You can see the people really appreciate you and your work.”
Fubara said work on five flyovers along the 50.15-kilometre ring road is nearing completion. He described the Creek Bridge as a particularly critical element of the project, noting it will enhance movement of people and goods between riverside communities and put an end to the risky practice of crossing waterways by canoe and small boat. “The days of taking risks to cross the river in canoes and boats will soon be over,” he said, urging residents to continue cooperating with the contractor to ensure delivery of quality work.
The governor confirmed the project—which began in 2023 and runs through five local government areas—is on track for completion by October 2026. He also said the contractor is making “significant progress” and that the state government is sustaining funding to meet the deadline.
The Port Harcourt Ring Road is a core infrastructure priority for the Fubara administration, intended to ease traffic congestion and improve urban mobility and economic activity in the commercial city. Residents and local leaders who attended the inspection expressed optimism that the completed road and bridge will boost safety, trade and connectivity across the affected communities.
