Jonathan who played host to the Delta State Governor and some other chieftains of the PDP, declared Okowa as the incoming Vice President of Nigeria.
This is a major word of support and by extension, a backing for the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar since it’s a joint ticket.
At the meeting on Wednesday, Jonathan held Okowa’s hand and was quoted to have said; “Our incoming vice-president — he has served two tenures as a governor.”
As earlier reported by TruetellsNigeria, the meeting was also attended by the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.
The meeting is understood to be part of consultations ahead of the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria to determine a successor for President Muhammadu Buhari.
Jonathan during the occasion, also wished those contesting for various positions in the 2023 elections “more success”.
The silence of the former President on PDP issues and activities had created concerns among the party leadership and supporters.
But Jonathan’s statement, which is his first public position regarding backing any presidential candidate for the 2023 polls will go a long way in boosting the party’s confidence in the build up to next year’s elections.
While there had been calls for the former President to contest the 2023 presidency amidst rumours that he would dump the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jonathan didn’t participate in any primary election of any party.
