Former Nigerian Military Governor Is Dead

A former Nigerian Military Governor is dead.

Truetells Nigeria reports that a retired brigadier-general and former Nigerian military governor of Sokoto State, northern Nigeria, Abubakar Mohammed is dead.

This online news platform understands the traditional ruler of Lere in Kaduna State, northern Nigeria, ascended the throne as 13 Emir of Lere in January 2011, died at the age of 76.

Several reports in the Nigerian media, say the former Nigerian military governor died after a brief illness on Saturday morning, April 10 in Kaduna at the age of 77.

“He is my uncle. We missed him this Saturday morning. It is indeed a loss for us and the whole family,” a relative, Hassan Mohammed told PREMIUM TIMES.

The traditional ruler, who is survived by four children and many grandchildren, will be buried in Lere town on Saturday at 5 p.m, family members said.

Born on April 15, 1944, Mohammed at­tended Lere and Soba primary schools be­tween 1951 and 1958 be­fore pro­ceeding to Barewa Col­lege Zaria from 1959 to 1963.

Mohammed was at the Ah­madu Bello University­sity be­tween 1965 and 1966 be­fore pro­ceed­ing to the Cal­i­for­nia Polytech­nic in the United States after which he joined the Nigerian army.

The late former military governor rose to the rank of a bri­gadier gen­eral and was a mil­i­tary administrator of Sokoto State from Au­gust 1985 to Septem­ber 1986.

Before his death, the former Nigerian military governor was also former president of the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture.
