In a striking endorsement of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has hailed it as the crucial driver of Nigeria’s fiscal stability. During a joint committee inauguration in Abuja, RMAFC member Bimbo Kolade emphasized the vital role FIRS plays in ensuring sustainable revenue for federal, state, and local governments.
Kolade revealed that in 2024, FIRS tax revenue accounted for an impressive 65% of the funds shared among the three tiers of government, eclipsing the traditional reliance on oil revenues. This shift highlights the increasing significance of tax collection in Nigeria’s economic landscape, especially under the stewardship of FIRS chairman Dr. Zacch Adedeji.
Commending Adedeji’s leadership, Kolade noted that the successes of recent tax reforms have been pivotal in fortifying Nigeria’s financial health. The collaboration between FIRS and RMAFC is seen as a model of efficiency, enhancing revenue accountability and supporting better fiscal planning across the nation.
As both agencies look to the future, they aim to strengthen their partnership through structured frameworks that promote innovation and address operational overlaps. This proactive approach is set to further solidify Nigeria’s fiscal foundation, ensuring a more resilient economic future.
