A fire outbreak on Thursday night razed Kpakpando FM, a private radio station located in Mbaukwu, in the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The cause of the incident could not be ascertained yet.
It occurred around 9.30 pm on Thursday and affected the office building of the radio station with its studio equipment partly burnt. However, no life was lost.
The Anambra State Fire Service Chief Safety Officer, Engr Martin Agbili, who confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on the phone, said some equipment and other parts of the building were saved through the quick response of firefighters following a distress call received by the service at around 9:39 pm.
Agbili said the cause of the fire had not been ascertained but added that the incident would be investigated.
He said, “At about 9.39 pm on Thursday, Anambra State Fire Service, received a distressed call of a fire outbreak at Kpakpando FM, Mbaukwu.
“Immediately we deployed our fire truck and gallant Firefighters to the scene of the fire. We fought, controlled and extinguished the fire.
“The office building with its studio equipment was partly burnt while some equipment and other parts of the building were saved.
“We withdrew from the fire scene at about 11.18pm. The cause of the fire is unknown because we were not there when it started but that will lead to fire investigation which we are not the one to do because it comprises other agencies.”
