Female Doctor Dies In Faulty Elevator At General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island

A female doctor identified as Dr. Vwaere Diaso has reportedly died in a faulty elevator.

Truetells Nigeria reports that the doctor died two weeks before the completion of her housemanship in a faulty elevator at General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Monday while the elevator she was inside, which is said to have been faulty for about a year, reportedly crashed from the 10th floor of the building to the ground floor.

The crash reportedly occurred when Diaso entered the elevator at the doctors’ quarters to collect her food from a dispatch rider waiting for her downstairs. She was inside the elevator when it suddenly malfunctioned and plummeted to the ground, resulting in severe injuries.

She was taken to the emergency ward of the hospital but she died.

A Twitter user, Big Amara, who also confirmed the incident said the deceased was a graduate of Babcock University, Ilishan Remo, Ogun State.

Amara blamed Diaso’s death on the alleged negligence of the hospital.

“A doctor who had just 2 weeks to complete her housemanship just died in a general hospital (Odan, Lagos island) due to poor management and negligence!!! The elevator she was in, fell from the 10th floor to the ground! The video was so painful to watch,” Amara tweeted.

Some workers in the hospital had reportedly complained about the elevator but the hospital management allegedly ignored the complaints and threatened them with licence suspension.

Someone who identified themselves as a friend of the deceased with Twitter handle @_Eddieee321 also confirmed the incident and also blamed the tragedy on the hospital’s negligence.

The Twitter user said, “Your death could have been avoided. I hate this … country.

“Why should my baby girl fall from the 10th storey floor to the ground floor in an elevator in the hospital? Why would she die like that? Why? She doesn’t deserve it!!! Everyone involved in this from the hospital management board to the elevator company, my God will judge you. The blood of an innocent child is on your hands and you’ll duly reap the consequences.”

According to the friend, it took almost an hour for the deceased to be retrieved from the elevator and rushed to the emergency theatre room only.

The friend said the hospital also did not have blood to give to Diaso.

However, efforts to get the reactions of the Lagos State government on the incident failed as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health of the state, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye and the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Gboyega Akosile, neither answered calls from Truetells Nigeria nor replied to text messages sent to them up until the time of filing this report.
