FEC Approves N24.2 Billion For Free Internet Services At Airports, Markets And Universities

Selected Nigerian universities, market places and airports are slated to commence the enjoyment of free internet services.

Truetells Nigeria reports that this is as the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved 24.2 billion naira for the provision of free internet services at 20 selected airports, six markets and 43 universities across the country.

It was learnt that the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, made the revelation after the FEC meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.

According to him, States to benefit from the project include Lagos and Ondo for the South-West, Imo, Anambra, Enugu for the South-East, Rivers and Akwa Ibom for the South-South, Abuja and Kwara for the North Central, Kano, Sokoto and Kebbi for the North-West, and Adamawa, Maiduguri and Gombe for North-East.

The minister said the project would ease communication challenges for passengers coming and going out through the airports, as well as make online transactions seamless for them.

This online news platform also gathered that the N22.2 billion naira is for the project cumulatively and is to be implemented by the Nigerian Communications Commission for five months.
