Father drags 30-year-old son to court to order him to find a job and leave his house

The daily La Repubblica reported that the man’s son had only worked part-time since graduating from technical school at the age of 19. His father turned to the justice system to persuade him to find a permanent job and become independent.

“This is a very painful initiative that had an educational purpose,” this is how lawyer, Federica Viotto, commented on the filing of the lawsuit.

Her client, she explained, wanted the 30-year-old to realise the need to build his own future because his parents could not always take care of him. He argued that he had difficulty finding permanent employment.

An attempt at earlier out-of-court mediation in the family failed.

When the civil case began in court, the young man announced that he had found a job as a worker and would receive a contract after an internship period.

The court ruled that there were no reasons that would prevent him from leaving home and cited an article from the Code of Civil Law stating that an adult child, in accordance with his or her capabilities and income, must contribute to the maintenance of the family as long as he or she lives with it.

According to the court’s ruling, the son is to move out within three months.
